AU is an idea for a performance developed by two choreographers; one from the old European empire (Austria AU- Christian Ubl) and the other from the ancient/new world (Australia AU – Kylie Walters). The choreographers collaborate with the writer, gardener and botanist, Gilles Clément on the manifesto of a “Tiers Paysage” (Third Landscape). Together they question and try to create a new or perhaps a forgotten space. A place that does not belong to an identifiable territory and does not have a specific function. A place where power is neither expressed nor endured. This hybrid space is a refuge for diversity, composed of lost ideas, vagabond identities, forgotten cultures and exists at the periphery of the possible. A forgotten place? A political negligence? An unhoped for space? The third space (AU) is created with 3 performers: Kylie Walters, Christian Ubl and musician Sebastian Martel (FR) working with the traditional Austrian cithare, the guitar and the leitmotif of the waltz to create a live score. The dance uses motifs of the Viennese Waltz and Australian Aboriginal dances to morph into a third possibility.
